The Cava-Tzu is a hybrid dog produced by the cross between the purebreds Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Shih-Tzu. The Shih Tzu’s name means little lion, though there’s nothing fierce at all about this adorable pet that has existed thousands of years ago and were favorites of Chinese royals. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is descended from the small Toy Spaniels that have lived through history and were likewise pets of royalty.

Physical Description

The Cava-Tzu has an average height of 9-18 inches and weight of 10-16 pounds and often closely resembles the shih-tzu’s appearance. The pup usually inherits the Shih-Tzu underbite and has a round face, similarly round button-eyes, glossy black nose, and a pair of floppy long ears that hang loosely on the sides of their head. These designer dogs have a moderate to dense, double-layered thick medium coat that looks nicer when clipped and groomed. Common colors include black, brown, tan, ruby, white, Blenheim, and can be bi- or tricolor.

Known for their entertaining attitude and people friendly nature, the Cava-Tzu can get along well with almost everyone. They are exceptionally good with kids, other animals, and even strangers. They are modest, loyal, playful, affectionate dogs that make for a wonderful companion and fun family dog. They are very willing to please for the sake of attention which makes them adorable pets.

Cava-Tzus do not need much exercise since they are highly energetic and playful at most times, though regular walks must be in place to prevent destructive behavior and boredom. They usually have sensitive skin and are best bathed with hypoallergenic shampoo. Feed your designer dog high-quality food for optimal health.
