The hybrid dog between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Maltese known as the Cav-A-Malt or Maltalier originates in the US. They were primarily developed to be great family companions which can give you a surprising pet. Designer dogs are mostly unpredictable and can exhibit combinations of the physical features and dominant qualities of their parent breeds.

Physical Description

The Cav-A-Malt has long silky ears and large eyes. Cavalier Maltese mixes arrive in a myriad of colors which can be combinations of red, white, tan, chestnut, cream, lemon, and black, depending on each parent’s hair. Their coat can either be medium or long and mostly curl-free, though a slightly wavy fur may also be seen. Long haired Maltaliers are prone to tangling and becoming matted, hence needs regular grooming.

This designer dog is known for being affectionate, loving, loyal, responsive, and at the same time can be aggressive and stubborn. Most Cav-A-Malt dogs are very intelligent and want to please their master, making them easyto train. They have a strong instinct to chase and do best in agility and obedience competitions for they are able to quickly learn. They are family friendly and generally get along well with children and would love to cuddle up. With the right training and a firm yet gentle handler, they would respond to positive reinforcement and would also blend with other pets.

Cav-A-Malts love regular exercise and would benefit from regular walks. Their floppy ears can acquire infection and must be properly dried after bath time, cleaned frequently, and inspected regularly.
