Bully Basset

Bully Bassets are an adorable designer breed that have come into popularity in recent years because of their playful disposition and because of the, ‘cuteness factor’. The Bully Basset is a crossbreed of the English Bulldog and the Basset Hound.

History

The English Bulldog has been a popular pet for ages because of their nice temperament and adorably unique facial features. Descriptions of bulldogs can be found as early as the 1500s. They have flourished over the years and were bred as a kind and loyal dog. Basset Hounds have been popular because of their big, dreamy eyes and laid back disposition. They were bred as hunting dogs, but pictures of short legged hunting dogs of their type have been found as far back as Middle Kingdom Egypt. Remains of similar dogs were found in ancient Greece and ancient Rome.

Physical Appearance

The Bully Basset is a medium dog that has the cute traits of both the bulldog and the Basset Hound. While they can appear in many colors, the most common colors are black, red, and white. They range in size from about 40 to about 65 pounds, with males being on the larger end of the spectrum.

Temperament

The Bully Basset is known as a very loving dog. Their desire to be social means that they tend to be playful and that they need regular exercise. This makes them an excellent family dog since they generally love to interact and to play with toys.

Health

In general, a Bully Basset is a healthy dog without a lot of issues besides the normal problems that plague aging dogs, such as hip dysplasia. Because they are part English Bulldog, they need to have their anal glands expressed because they are prone to infections.

These rather large dogs live on average between eight and twelve years. As mentioned before, proper exercise is key to their longevity and overall health. While they can be content living in an apartment or other small home, they need that daily walk to keep them in shape and to make sure that they don’t misbehave out of boredom and the need for exercise.
