To The Dog Lovers out there,

OtisMy name is Anna and I have a heart breaking story to tell you. My son got a baby pug last year, he nursed it with a bottle and brought him up as a tiny puppy. Zack slept with this puppy every night and had a tight bond with him, he was like his baby. His name was Otis. The most precious puppy you could see, Zack’s baby.

Last night he was in the back yard on a retractable leash tied to the porch for just about an hour so he could get some sun. My Son had to run out on an errand and was back less then an hour. The retractable leash was not one of those cheap leashes it cost a little over $30 and the puppy managed to chew through it and slip out into the front yard. He would have celebrated his first birthday next month. Well when he got out into the front yard he went into the street and was hit by a truck. He was taken to the emergency room at the pet hospital but he was to broken up and had massive internal injuries. Before my Son knew what happened the puppy was put to sleep. After looking for three hours he called the SPCA and they asked him if the puppy had been on a retractable leash, Zack said “yes” then they told him what happened. Zack was in pieces because his baby was killed.  He called me and cried for almost three hours with me on the phone.

People please don’t trust the retractable leashes to keep your dog tied up in the back yard or front yard. They were not made to keep animals tied up. The puppy chewed through the string. I am pleading with anyone out there not to do this.  I am a disabled Mother that goes to school and has very little money to get my son a new puppy. If anyone out there has a pug puppy that they are trying to find a good home to, you couldn’t pick the right person to be such a good owner. If  I can I would like to get my son Zack a new puppy to give him when he comes out for Christmas.  I think that his grieving should be a little better by then. If I could get the puppy in time to train it to go potty outside before my son comes here from Ohio it would be a wonderful gift.  I know that he would be one of the best puppy owners you could ever meet. Now he needs to go through the grieving process but his heart is so broken I worry about him.  I have never seen my son with so much pain. Please, please if anyone in the bay area can give a pug puppy away to a wonderful parent, Zack would be the best. I would make sure that he gets all his shot’s and check ups. Please look into your hearts and think about a time when you may have been broken hearted after loosing one of your dogs and feel Zack’s pain. I know I have been crying all day for my son. If you can help please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . For the rest of you that may read this take head that retractable leashes are not made to tie to anything, they can be chewed through.  I would love to know that I saved one dog by telling you all this.
